Welcome Son

Wyatt's birth story:

On July 24, I woke with a horrible headache, blurred vision and seeing spots. I knew immediately that my blood pressure was up. And I was right...167/97! I waited until 9am, until the doctors office was open, and called to let him know.
His nurse told me to pack my bags and head to the hospital...and that I was in luck, because my doctor was there on call!
I packed everything up, left Claire with my mom and called Chris to say, this could be it!
Once we got to the hospital we were placed in triage where I laid on a stretcher and had my blood pressure monitored as well as the little guys heart rate.
Labs were drawn and urine collected to test if I had pregnancy induced hypertension.
While we waited for results, I started contracting. First it was every 8-12 minutes, and soon enough it was every 2 minutes. Here I am in the hospital, for hypertension, and I am going into labor on my own!
Once my doctor saw my contraction pattern, and that they were getting uncomfortable, he checked me and I was 4cm...and we were admitted!
I called my mom and sister (my labor team!) and told them to come quick, this baby was on his way.
My labor continued for 8 hours, in which my doctor had to leave because another doctor was coming on...I was so sad. But he stuck around 3 extra hours hoping I would deliver...love him.
Wyatt came quick at that point, all of 4 pushes and he was here!

As soon as he was born, I knew something wasn't right. The boy was blue... really blue. I tried and tried to rub him and get him to cry, but the nurse had to take him away to stimulate him to see if he would pink up.
It took over 12 minutes, which felt like an eternity to me without my baby in my arms.
At that point my nurse told us she needed to call the neonatologist to come and examine him because he was not transitioning well. The doctor came and looked him over, and another 10 minutes went by with us on pins and needles.

Here is poor daddy, crying for his son with the comfort of Ema.
I told him it would be okay, and not to cry, but he was terrified.
Finally, the doctor said he was doing better and he could stay with us.

Needless to say, we were relieved!

We finally got to hold and bond with our little sunshine.
Shady Grove was amazing... their protocol is to have 2 full hours of skin to skin bonding and breastfeeding while recovering in Labor and Delivery. The baby is never taken from mom during this time.
No one is allowed back to the labor room during this time.
But just like with Claire... by blood pressure sky rocketed and they had to dim the lights and keep it quiet for it to recover. I was medicated and my mom and sister were shooed out so that I could rest.

We cuddled and loved on this precious baby.

I was amazed that even when the neonatal assessment nurse came to assess him, he never left my arms!
Way to go Shady Grove... major points for us.

We spent most of the night cuddling and loving on this beautiful little miracle and thanking God for this precious gift. We were so thankful for this time just the 3 of us were able to spend together.

It wasn't until the next morning that we could have Claire come and meet him. We told her when we left her to head to the hospital that just maybe baby Wyatt would be ready to come out of mommy's tummy. And Ema prepared her on their way to visit. It was just amazing to see Claire get it. She came in looking for baby Wyatt and fell in love with him right away.

I melt.

I swoon.
I never thought I would have enough room in my heart for this. I never saw myself with a son.
I am so thankful God has blessed us with him.
A boy, what a difference.
And I'm in love.
